What 2026 May Hold
Happy New Year! 2025 was another spectacular year for Petersen International with growth along most insurance lines of the specialty markets. Individual disability and group GSI sectors continued to expand, the life and Failure to Survive markets showed consistent growth and accident and war risk insurance sales skyrocketed last year. Now let’s look ahead to what we can hope for from the specialty lines over the next 12 months.
Lloyd’s underwriting syndicates continue loosening more-strict underwriting methodologies that came about during the COVID era. Many aspects of the marketplace seem to be mostly softened as we now witness fewer conservative boundaries being set by the carriers.
This year we anticipate continued success in the GSI disability space with a maintained focus on long-term product viability and profitability. Primary targets remain the legal, medical, accounting and financial services fields.
We also anticipate additional growth in 2026 from individual DI sales. While physicians, attorneys, executives, high financiers, private equity specialists and accountants will continue to be the market’s best and most obvious prospects, we anticipate seeing more out of fringe industries like gaming, cannabis and digital entertainment, especially disability and life insurance for internet stars and social media personalities.
Professional and collegiate athletics will maintain its loyal niche in the disability market, and there will obviously be more interest this year in insurance for NIL (name, image, likeness) deals as well as our athlete critical injury insurances as those spaces further evolve.
In 2026, we will continue to serve the public need for unique and simplified-issue death benefits through our highly successful Failure to Survive product line which provides term benefits for businesses for key person, buy/sell and business loan situations. Impaired risk capabilities and quick policy issuance help make the FTS products some of the most popular and important financial tools in the specialty insurance markets today.
Technology in 2026 will also be in the forefront. Improvements in document processing and further streamlining underwriting logistics through evolving programming will continue to be important this year at Petersen International. We plan to further modernize processes that will intend to make buying insurance policies more attractive to your clients and make case management and business retention easier opportunities for you, the insurance advisor.
